Maja Ruznic
Ruznic searches for commonalities in her personal and collective memories and experiences, creating images that are deeply connected to the soul. Always diluting and blurring the characters and landscapes in her paintings, she explores the nostalgia and childhood trauma of war and refugee experiences.
“Like my paintings, the prints in this group are composed of many layers—somewhere between seven to ten. The layering allowed us to create a kind of depth that was not illusionistic, but rather, psychological. ”
“I think of all the prints as interior or psychological landscapes. Carl Jung, whose work fascinates me a great deal, talks about the importance of integrating our Shadow, or repressed self with our conscious self. These prints are perhaps my surrender to Shadow and my hope is that they will invite a similar kind of acceptance in the viewer.”

My reflection:
I'm impressed with her use of blur to represent fragments of memory and layering layers to create depth, which may also apply to my presentation of memories.
